Current Facility Challenges

Current Status of Sergeant Bluff-Luton CSD Facilities

The Primary School
The SB-L Primary School serves students in preschool through 2nd grade and houses our before and after school daycare and an  all-day daycare.  The original part of the building was built in 1959.  Additions were added in 1962, 1964, and in 1988.  The building needs updates to plumbing, electrical, HVAC, asbestos removal, and expansion of the lunchroom and gym.  This building has 77,430 square feet and currently serves 459 students with an additional 160 students served in the Before and After School program.  The all-day daycare serves 24 children.  Estimates to renovate this building to address the identified issues are approximately $10 million dollars.

The Elementary School
Serves students in grades 3-5 and was built in 2001.  The Elementary school is in need of at least 3 additional classrooms due to enrollment increases.  For the past few years this has required doubling up of students in a few of the classrooms.  This building has approximately 82,325 square feet and has a capacity of 375 students.  The building currently serves 380 students.   Estimates to add these additional classrooms are approximately $2 million dollars.

The Middle School
Serves students in grades 6-8 and was built in 1988.  The 8th grade wing was added in 2005.  This building originally served students in grades 5-8, but with increases in enrollment, the 5th grade was removed from the building when the new Elementary School was built in 2001.  The Middle School needs the expansion of the Band room and the Family Consumer Science room.  The building has 84,444 square feet and has a capacity of 390.  The building currently serves 374 students. Estimates to address these areas are approximately $1.5 million dollars.

The High School
Serves students in grades 9-12 and was built in 1977.  The building was expanded in 1996 and in 2010.  The building has 117,529 square feet and has a capacity of 510 students.  The building currently serves 500 students.  The auditorium was renovated in 2014. This site contains the football field and track stadium.  The High School competition gym and the High School softball and baseball fields are located at the Elementary School Site.  The High School soccer field is located on the City Sports Complex site.  The current High School site has the least amount of room to enable future growth.  This poses a major obstacle for engineers as the High School needs expansion in the following areas: Family Consumer Science, Industrial Technology, Wrestling room, Locker rooms, Choir room, Gymnasium, Auditorium, Football Stadium and Seating, and Parking Lot.  Estimates to do all of these renovations and additions on this site are over 35 million dollars.  Estimates to build new High School are a approximately 43 million dollars.
